Keep Pushing

Over the weekend I did my morning run like usual. I normally try to get at least one run in over the weekend. I don’t really set a time but my morning runs normally give me clarity for whatever reason. I tend to think better in the morning verses later during the day. I think maybe because my mind tend to have a million things going on by time the evenings hit in the day.

I love to run because, running brings me back to when I played basketball back in junior high and high school. It was during this time my leadership began to be activated without me even knowing so. I realized I became a point guard and for that reason alone, I was put into a leadership role. I was the general of the floor. Everything happened on the floor because of my decision making. I had to think and execute the game plan in my head throughout the entire game. I had to adapt to whatever defense I was up against throughout four quarters.

It wasn’t the games that prepared me to keep pushing , it was the preparation for the game that prepared me for the PUSHING!!

See as a point guard, we are told, “WE MUST LEAD IN EVERY ASPECT THAT SURROUNDS THE GAME”.

I know we have all seen the movie, Love and Basketball. The coach yells to Sanaa Lathan, and I quote, “POINT GUARDS LEAD THE FRONT NO THE BACK”. You must lead the running during practice. You must lead by being the first one out to practice and most of the times, the last one to leave. You must lead when everyone around you are scared. You must lead when all eyes are on you. You must lead when the score is not looking so pretty. You must LEAD!!!!

So as I run, I always think back to those days! Running for me is very therapeutic. It sets the tone for my day. It sets the tone for me to LEAD no matter what I’m facing in life, I HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING.

As life hits and things get tough, you must KEEP PUSHING!!! There will be obstacles along the way but you must keep pushing.

So the past weekend a storm was brewing in the gulf. We was expecting flash, flood warnings. So when I woke up Saturday morning, my husband said, you better go ahead and get your run in before the storm comes. He said, it’s a lot of people out there as well.

I got up, fixed my breakfast, read for about 20 minutes, and then I went for my run.

I run around a lake which is behind my home. So as I was walking toward the track the waves of the lake was really moving. The clouds were dark with a little light. I thought, I can give myself 2 miles and then head back home.

I ran faster than normally the first mile. I was setting my time around the weather. I could see the clouds moving and I could hear the wind whipping. I thought, I hope I don’t get caught in the storm.

Here is where it gets good!!! I thought, I Hope I don’t get caught in the storm. In order to not get caught up in any storm, you have to KEEP PUSHING!!

I was beginning my second mile, and it started to drizzle a little. The winds picked up a little more. I could’ve stop and turn around or I could push through. At that very moment of me saying, I got this, my run became even more intentional! Also everyone had finished their morning run, so I was the only person on the track.

I thought if I stop and turn around, I will stop in the storm. But if I keep pushing, I will eventually beat the storm. What am I saying? I’m saying, there will be obstacles and trials throughout your life that will feel like a storm, you MUST KEEP PUSHING. There will be times when you are in the storm all alone as well, BUT YOU MUST KEEP PUSHING!!

The wind, the dark clouds, and the drizzling were my obstacles to finish that 2 miles. I had to adjust to how I would finish the race. Where I would normally walk, I ran. Where I would run on a pace, I ran with speed. Where I would stop for a little minute break, I kept going.

As storms approach your life, you must always be ready to adjust!! You must be willing to keep pushing in the storms! As I stated earlier no one was on the track by time I made it out there. So that means, I was out there alone.

At times I was scared because the clouds were moving! I was nervous because I was on the other side of the track which meant I wasn’t close by home. I was hoping the winds calmed just a little. Sometimes we can’t control the storm but we can control how we respond!

You can’t stop in the storm because that only lingers the storm!! Let me say that again, YOU CANT STOP IN THE STORM BECAUSE THAT ONLY LINGERS YOU IN THE STORM!! You must KEEP PUSHING!!

Rain, Sleet, Snow, you must fight through the storms!!! You must win and you must dig deep to get the job done. For me, I thought about how I had to lead the front and not the back during my run in order to beat the weather the other day.

As soon as I made it to my front door, the rain came pouring down!!!

Because I kept pushing, I didn’t get caught up in my storm. Instead, I pushed through the obstacles and BEAT THE STORM!!!

Sometimes all you need is YOU AND GOD! Sometimes all you need is A LITTLE FAITH AND SOME DETERMINATION TO GET THROUGH THR STORM!!! Sometimes being in the storm alone helps you understand YOUR STRENGTH!! Don’t let NO STORM STOP YOU FROM YOUR DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS!!! KEEP PUSHING!!!!
